You have all heard of Omikron right? Oh what's that? I see some of you curiously raising your eyebrows.
Omikron was the first game from developer Quantic Dream. Starting to sound familliar? well it should.
Omikron was an open world kind of game from 1999 full of features, characters, different gameplay and an interesting world and a score featuring music from David Bowie.
However Quantic dream is perhaps most famous for their most recent title Heavy Rain. Ever since the company started they have strifed to revolutionize how we play games and how we connect emotionally with the characters onscreen. A legacy they have carried with unbroken pride over the years.
I remember stepping out in Omicron and having MY soul transferred into the character. It was mezmerising. A daring step that few games even today dare to take.
I always liked Quantic Dream for their ambition and their unique goals within the industry. They have created a strong niché that other companies only can strife to attain. Surely I believe there will eventually be contenders to their self proclaimed throne, there is already some games out there that do a fairly good job.
But let's talk Beyond: Two Souls.
Beyond is looking graphically like an update from Heavy Rain. The difference is not as big as the gap between Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, actually it's rather small but noticable.
The game features an all new cast with some superstars supporting the game with motion, character and voice. I'm very excited, if you couldn't tell already.
When asked how the project is different from movies the main actress Ellen Page insinuated that the outcome of her characters journey is ultimately not decided by her but by the player. She also seems genuinely excited that the gap between movies and games are closing in on each other and that games can offer something to the medium that is fresh and entertaining.
